Why I Left
Today, September 29th 2014, was the last day I went into the Colupon office as co-founder and VP Product.
For some people this was a complete surprise, for others they saw it coming about a week ago. For me this was a 6 month decision in the making and the time was right to do it now.
I do need to make two things clear.
- I did not leave because the work was too difficult. Colupon is in a stressful period currently but that has nothing to do with my decision.
- I still believe in Colupon and what the team is doing. Colupon is how mobile coupons should be.
There are many variables that come into play with this huge decision. For perspective, this is a project turned business that I was completely consumed by the day I joined in January 2013. School went by the way side until I dropped out of UNCG. Friendships faded away. My parents moved away (for their own reasons). And on my own at 19, now 20, I had to start counting my pennies. But one of the main problems with being a co-founder of a coupon app is I am not a coupon user. The only time I ever legitimately used a Colupon deal is when I ordered pizza one day for the office. Seeking out deals for the next time I go to the grocery store or out for lunch is not something I do.
The other main reason is that the time feels right. I need to clear my head and move on to the next chapter of my life. Work has already begun on this next chapter and I can’t wait to start helping people spend money online quicker.
P.S. I want to thank the rest of the Colupon team for believing in our mission of Saving Money, Smarter and helping me learn as much as I have. I want to thank our investors for giving us the runway to create all that we have and try to change the mobile coupon industry. And I want to thank my parents, friends and Lauren for supporting me the entire way through.
