Dear “Senior Year Adam”

Hi me,

Let me jump right in by saying you will really enjoy your senior year. There are classes that are difficult and there are others that are easy and it works out to be a good balance. Don’t take it too seriously (especially English).

Keep putting yourself out there. It will pay off in the end. It won’t always be easy and it won’t always be fun but you will be glad you put in the effort.

When it comes to working, never turn down a great opportunity. You know your strengths and weaknesses, you know when to say no and you know when you should say yes even though you don’t know what you are getting yourself into. Daytaro started out as an experiment and every new opportunity should be treated as one. See how well you can do.

You will have some great ideas and these ideas will build upon each other. Run wild with them. High school is a unique time where you can take a chance, fail and do it all over again without worrying about where your next meal will come from.

You will also have some bad ideas. Some of those you will catch before you act upon them and others you will run with. Trust me on this one, you will trip and you will trip hard. But that is no excuse to not dust yourself off and keep running. Making mistakes has gotten you to where you are now and you are better now than you were a year ago. Let’s be real, making mistakes has been a huge part of our life, especially in the social arena. And that’s where our motto came from, “why not?”. Analyze the results after, not before.

Working is when we are happiest but don’t take that too far. Regardless of who you are, or who you think you are, you need a break every once in a while to refresh this idea-filled head of ours. Burn out is one of the worst sicknesses we can get and the only way to get better is to relax and distract yourself from the work.

And remember, the simple things will take care of themselves. The difficult decisions need more of your focus. You will know when they come.

I wish this was a beautiful letter wrapped in a bow but it wouldn’t be the straight truth, when that is what you need. The most important thing to take away from this is that it won’t be fun, but it’s your job to make it fun. You can’t control life but you can decide how you live in it.

Have fun,
